Sumitomo Electric Industries, Ltd. was selected for the Thomson Reuters 2014 Top 100 Global Innovator Award by Thomson Reuters, the world’s leading information service company (Headquarters: New York, U.S.), and received the trophy on January 9.

Thomson Reuters has selected the 100 most innovative companies every year since 2011. The Award recognizes companies that lead the world in turning creative ideas into protected by intellectual property rights, thereby successfully　commercializing these inventions. The selection is done based on four criteria: the number of patents, success ratio of published applications to granted patents, patent portfolio in major world markets, and impact of inventions as determined by the frequency of citations by other companies over the past five years.

We believe that Sumitomo Electric has been selected for this award - its third such award following the one in 2013 - as a result of the recognition of collective efforts of the Group.
